Job description
- Experience in safety advisory role previously & knowledge of Victorian safety legislation
- Initially a 3 month contract that could be extended | $49.00 to $52.00 per hour + super
- Local Government in north east | Hybrid work options after first few weeks in role
This busy government authority based in the northeast, requires a safety and wellbeing advisor to join their safety team. You will be reporting into the coordinator of safety and wellbeing and working alongside the safety team.
This role is to start ASAP and is projected initially for 3 months’ time, it could be extended beyond this. It is a full-time role, working Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm.
The council offer hybrid work arrangements, 3 days in the office and 2 from home. For the first few weeks you will be expected to be in the office full-time.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Support the organisation in developing and implementing safety and wellbeing programs that promote an effective OHS culture and a proactive approach to the identification, management, and prevention of risks.
- Act as a change agent, build awareness, and engagement around safety and wellbeing to establish a sustainable, ingrained positive safety and wellbeing culture.
- Provide advice to the business, including supporting and providing strategic early intervention injury management, and wellbeing services.
- Facilitate OHS sessions for Business Units to assist them in identifying OHS risks and effective controls for minimising risk to Council employees, and to increase staff’s awareness of OHS and health & wellbeing issues.
- Support and actively participate in a Wellbeing plan and program that aims to educate and improve Council’s culture and supports the delivery of diversity and inclusion, mental health, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Review and implement an Emergency Preparedness throughout Council
- Incident follow up and provide advice regarding effective control measures to prevent re-occurrence.
- Maintain OHS databases, prepare and analyse reports, identify strategies and present findings as required to area managers, staff, and OHS committees,
You will have the following:
- Degree qualifications and significant experience in safety and wellbeing or related field.
- Proven safety & wellbeing experience gained in a similar role within a complex operating environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with a broad range of internal stakeholders
- Experience in the delivery of technical safety advice to individuals at all levels, to minimise risk across a diverse workforce
- Knowledge and experience in the application of practices and procedures for an effective and efficient OHS Management system.
- Ability to interpret and explain the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004) simply and clearly.
- Analytical and investigative skills to enable the formulation and amendment of policy options from within a broad organisation-wide framework.
