Opportunity for an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to join a Local Government authority in the CBD | 6-week role | $42.93ph | June start

 

  • Process invoices for payment accurately and in line with Council policies
  • Previous experience as an essential Accounts Payable Officer for this role, experience within a Local Government will be regarded

We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Officer to join our team at Council. In this important role, you will ensure timely, accurate payments to Council’s creditors, maintain compliance with Council policies and processes, and support the Finance and Procurement teams with high-level accounts payable administration.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process invoices for payment accurately and in line with Council policies and GST legislation.
  • Review and verify supporting payment documentation for completeness and correctness.
  • Conduct supplier statement reconciliations, resolving outstanding issues promptly.
  • Monitor and action requests from the Accounts Payable mailbox.
  • Respond professionally to supplier and internal stakeholder queries.
  • Maintain up-to-date supplier information in the NAV database, liaising with procurement as needed.
  • Ensure coding is accurate and data entry is completed for weekly and monthly EFT runs.
  • Prepare EFT payment files and ensure accurate processing of payments.
  • Maintain appropriate security and control processes for all electronic payments.
  • Ensure payments are properly authorised and comply with Council procedures.
Records Management:

  • Ensure complete and accurate records are maintained in Council’s electronic records management system (including Objective).
  • Maintain filing systems for all accounts payable documentation in line with Council standards.
Key Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in accounts payable operations and internal controls.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
  • High-level customer service skills and ability to resolve issues diplomatically.
  • Solid reconciliation skills and understanding of GST compliance.
  • Proficiency in Accounts Payable systems, Microsoft Excel, Property & Rating systems, and Objective records management systems (desirable).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:

  • Qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent experience in accounts payable, finance administration, or a related field.
