Property and Leasing Officer position at Local Government based in the western suburbs | 5-month contract ASAP start | Full time – 38 hours per week | $48 per hour

About the role

This Local Government is seeking a motivated and detail-driven Property and Leasing Officer to manage their diverse property portfolio, ensuring best practice in leasing and licensing across commercial, residential, and land assets.

In this key position, you will be responsible for the end-to-end coordination of leases and licenses, including lease negotiations, rental reviews, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and growing municipality where your property expertise will help ensure Council’s landholdings are managed efficiently and in the best interests of the community.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Administer and manage Council’s leases and licenses, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with internal teams and tenants to negotiate lease terms, rental reviews and renewals.
  • Maintain accurate records in the lease register, including rental amounts, key dates, and compliance documentation.
  • Monitor the property leasing budget and assist with forecasting and reporting.
  • Provide property advice and support to staff, community groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and review procedures and policies guiding the management of Council land.
  • Ensure appropriate community consultation is undertaken on lease-related matters.
  • Prepare business cases, reports and recommendations for Council and the Executive Leadership Team.
 

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in property, real estate, or a related field, or significant relevant experience.
  • At least 1–3 years' experience in property leasing or coordination, ideally in a government or complex stakeholder environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of lease and license agreements, including legal and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships across internal departments, community groups, and external partners.
  • Strong analytical, written, and communication skills for reporting and policy development.
  • Financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets and lease income profiles.
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and great customer service.
 

You will have the following: 

  • Local government experience is essential.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
