Job description

  • $120,000 – $130,000 + super + salary packaging
  • North of Melbourne CBD | Full-time | Hybrid model – 3 days office / 2 days WFH
  • Lead a small, passionate team committed to wellbeing and recovery-first approaches
About the Organisation:

Our client, a leading not-for-profit in the mental health sector, is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to champion a culture of safety, care, and psychological wellbeing across all their sites. Reporting directly to the Director, People & Culture, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that every employee feels supported, heard, and safe — physically and psychologically.

You’ll lead a small but dedicated WHS team (an Injury Management Advisor and WHS Coordinator) and work in close partnership with senior leaders to create an environment where wellbeing is embedded into everyday practice, and safe return-to-work pathways are prioritised.

This is a full-time, 12-month contract role, working Monday–Friday, with a hybrid work model offering flexibility (3 days in the office, 2 days from home).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organisation’s Safety and Wellbeing Management System, embedding psychological safety as a core principle.
  • Champion early intervention, proactive injury management, and safe, sustainable return-to-work programs.
  • Provide expert guidance during critical incidents and ensure robust support systems are in place for affected employees.
  • Lead wellbeing initiatives focused on mental health, resilience, and preventative strategies to create a thriving workplace culture.
  • Partner with senior leadership to foster a proactive, compassionate safety culture that aligns with legislative obligations and best practice standards.
  • Chair Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Committee meetings and drive strategic WHS priorities.
  • Mentor and support your WHS team, encouraging continuous learning, collaboration, and empowerment.
About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading WHS and wellbeing initiatives, ideally in the not-for-profit, healthcare, or community services sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and incident management frameworks.
  • A passion for supporting people through recovery, return-to-work planning, and psychological wellbeing programs.
  • Outstanding communication and coaching skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (highly regarded).
Why Work Here?

  • Hybrid working arrangements – enjoy the balance of office connection and remote flexibility.
  • Salary packaging benefits to maximise your take-home pay.
  • Join a purpose-driven organisation that truly values psychological safety and inclusion.
  • Be part of an organisation that is deeply committed to wellbeing, diversity, and creating a positive impact every day.
